Our Amboise home-away-from-home!

I'm honestly not even sure how Gary found this rental "gite" in Amboise, but it sure is a winner!  Do we look happy here?!  You bet!  There were so many lovely aspects of this home...and 1 major downside - the killer spiral stairs up and down, each direction leading to a bedroom and bathroom - no bathroom on the main floor.  Normally this wouldn't have been a problem (like when we actually rented it last year), but now Gary has gout, I have a funky knee, and Babette is still recovering from a horrible tumble she took.  But the location is AMAZING...just a few hundred yards up the street is the Clos Lucé (Leonardo da Vinci's last home) and just down the hill is the cathedral and all the restaurants.  Let me take you on a little tour!

 The view out of our living room window...love the slate roofs and gardens below.  Babette loved opening the window shutters and sitting on the broad windowsill with all the fragrance of the garden below wafting up!  (Oh, and a glass of wine in her hand!)

Oh well, I don't have a photo of Babette with wine in hand...but here is the new poster-boy for Amboise Monthly...

One of the things that is so interesting about this home, is that the owners basically bought a wreck, had a vision and (with a lot of work and love) turned it into something sweet and lovely!  They bought the property in 2012 and took 2 years to renovate it.

The darn spiral stairs...no way to get to a bathroom without going either up or down on these beasts!  (Pass the Advil please!)

    What A remarkable home transformation. I love the sense of history throughout The village. Your pictures are wonderful. I especially love the one of the 2 of you framed by the window!

Yes....at the time I write this, we are home from Paris.  I guess I was just having too much fun to write while we were there!  (Actually we had horrible wifi in our apartment, which made it virtually impossible!).  After a crazy day of returning the car and almost missing not one...but 2 trains, we finally made it to Paris! Planes, trains and (French) automobiles!

Let's see what happens when you mix 2 brothers and 2 sisters-in-law with a map and a French rental car and set them loose in France for 26 days!!  The four of us have studied maps, read reviews, consulted with each other across the country (thank you ZOOM!), and made all our reservations...now we just have to wait 'til May 1 so we can start the adventure of  " 4 Hunts in France". The kindness of strangers

We are thoroughly enjoying our time in Paris, but yesterday had 2 particularly special moments.  I have been known to get into pretty heated discussions at home when I hear people talk about how rude French people (especially Parisians), and yesterday I had 2 instances that proved my point.  We had a photoshoot yesterday morning in Paris, and then we had 1pm tickets to the highly touted Dior exhibit.  As we were meandering between the 2 activities, we made a few stops.  At some point around 12:30 I realized I had made a mis-calculation in my navigation to the Dior exhibit (I'm a dummy and didn't notice that my GPS had autocorrected Rue Francoise to Rue Francaise).  We hailed a cab as we were not going to make it to the correct address by our 1pm ticket time.  At some point in our cab ride, Gary realized that he did not have his bag (man-purse) that he carries while traveling.  In other words he no longer had his passport or wallet. ...
