Row, row, row your boat...gently down the Dordogne!
When we started planning this trip, we all got excited when we heard you can rent canoes on the Dordogne River...it just seemed like such a fun and memorable way to see some of the prettiest little villages in this part of France. We put in at Vitrek and paddled down to Beynac. We passed by Vézac, Castelnaud and La Roque-Gageac...they all look like storybook towns - and really I can't imagine a better way to see them than from the river!
See, I told you he was having fun!
(When we rented the canoes, they gave us a waterproof bucket for all our belongings...that's what Gary is holding, which we lugged to lunch, as did all the other canoe/kayak folks). We had actually passed by La Roque-Gageac which is where we wanted to stop for lunch, but we couldn't paddle quickly enough to get to the pull out spot! (Gary and I do a lot of things really well together...perhaps paddling is not our finest strength!)
What a magnificent view of the countryside, and what a fun way to see it! Edit
ReplyDeleteIt is impossible to appreciate how romantically gorgeous that canoe trip must have been.
